In 1993 for the first time as a chief of the states President Mitterrand visited Korea. On this visit Mitterrand promised that he would return the 397 volumes of the Oe-Kyujanggak Archives (royal protocols of Chosun Dynasty in Korea) to Korea that were pillaged by French army in 1866 and now are the part of the collections in the Bibliotheque Nationale de France (National Library of France). Also he spoke his mind that Hyikyungwon-Wonsodogam-Uigwe, two-volume books would be returned first on his visit as a symbolic present. However the very next day Mitterrand just conveyed the first volume to Korea and took the second volume back to France. Besides even now 12 years after Mitterrand’s promise, the rest of the books are still kept in the Bibliotheque Nationale de France. The title of this film, [Coreen 2495] means the French call number of the first volume returned in 1993. With the clue of this call number the filmmaker starts on his journey to Europe to documents the second volume and the rest of books. On this expedition the filmmaker meets the people who are involved in this issue and comes across the political and economic truth behind the issue. Shot in Korea and Europe, [Coreen 2495] portraits the imperialism that still functions as world hegemony, Korean government that has been helpless against it and the people who devote their life to have the Oe-Kyujanggak Archives back to Korea.
