Program Note
Graduate student Won-sang is dumped by his girlfriend. When he finds out that she was seeing Yun-sik, a magazine editor, he gets a job at the magazine as a writer. Yun-sik sees himself as a mentor to Won-sang, who becomes his trustworthy protege. The film portrays the character’s choices and paths inspired by jealousy in documentary-like detail. The observational cinematography and slow paced editing build a remakable slowly rising tension. The low-key approach to reality and cinematic form addresses the question of whether the main character, who has aligned himself with the object of his jealousy, can be understood. (Huh Moon-yung)
