Program Note
Lyz, a 15-year-old slalom skier, is personally coached by former champion Fred. Lyz gradually becomes famous in France as a promising player due to Fred’s tough weight management, training schedules, and outspokenness. Lyz and Fred get closer and Fred suddenly demands physical relations from Lyz. Slalom is a precarious film. It shows the cases of grooming for sexual violence caused by the hierarchy between coaches and athletes as well as reveals the covetous eyes toward fit bodies that exercise. We have to realize that what is coming to Lyz begins with a situation where she cannot choose. Slalom clearly shows a harsh descent into degradation. (CHO Il-nam)
