Program Note
Middle school student Junho lives with his half-brother Seongho and mother. One day, a strange woman comes looking for his mother, and she and his mother get into a car accident. His mother falls into a coma. The woman was the wife of Wonjae, Seongho’s father. Seongho takes his son home with him, but leaves Junho behind. Junho is left all alone, but Seongho comes looking for him and begs his father to let him live with his brother. Wonjae, Seongho’s father can’t help but bring Junho home as well. In a good environment, different from his own, Junho begins to feel like part of the family, as he wins Wonjae’s recognition. However, his happiness is short-lived when his mother dies. Will Junho be able to become a member of a new family? The film portrays a boy’s ardent desire to stay strong amid misfortune and hardship. The contrast between a child thirsting for the warmth of a family and an adult hesitating to become his guardian because of secular eyes is noteworthy. (NAM Dong-chul)
