Program Note
THE YELLOW MONKEY is the best rock band in Japan, proclaims the re-forming group, breaking the silence of the past 15 years. The members of the band begin their concert tour, promising never to break up again. Director Daishi photographs their past and future, crossing up and down the stage. For the members of the band that is now a legend for their many hit songs and tremendous album sales, what’s the meaning of reuniting, and can they make better music now? Averaging 51 years old, their strength has declined and their voices go wrong during the concerts. However, their teamwork is better than ever. They’re actually a family that has experienced ups and downs together, and understands each other’s suffering, and even know what each other wants to eat without saying anything. Their faith and friendship enables them to deliver something deeper and more soulful than the power of their heyday. The Yellow Monkey is not here to revive past glory, but to create a better stage show. Interpreting the songs in a new way, they start from scratch. (CHO Hyeyoung)
