Program Note
The Geumcheon District members of the Korea Street Vendors Confederation visit a successful community radio station. Seeing how anyone can participate to further the communication of the local community, they decide to establish their own community radio station. They want to begin the conversations as soon as possible, but their conflict with a similar group, the Korea Democratic Street Venders Confederation, and the government crackdown on their business make not only the establishing the radio station impossible, but it makes business difficult. The film shows the partially successful community movement by street vendors. The Design Seoul Street becomes a microcosm of Seoul. On a street that most people pass without interest, a fight ensues every day to protect the individual and the community. It is exhausting work, but for the sake of communication, they proudly exclaim, “the street vendors’ radio station is in the streets.” (KONG Youngmin)
