Three children are hanging out together, re-enacting the bond from ‘San Guo Shi’ and obsessing over with Star Wars. These seemingly typical boys are all autistic. Fond of drawing, the boys gather around and work on surprisingly elaborate creations that vividly come alive and manifest the boys’ inner lives when they are unable to communicate with the world. [Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars] takes a detour from the tediously repetitive educational process or family members’ pain in its approach to the world of autistic children. The film tries to understand the special beauty of the world they see, but that does not mean the family’s agony magically disappears or that the film disregards their severe conflicts. Instead, it makes an effort to find the way all the elements coexist together through understanding the kids’ world. The process of such efforts is calmly portrayed through the relationship between autistic children and their families, which provides us with hope at every moment, and yet is fleeting in nature like twinkling little star.
