Special Academic Session

As part of Forum BIFF 2025, the academic forum will bring together leading figures from diverse fields— including audiovisual content, visual design, animation, and film—to share insights on visual culture and explore practical directions for the future. 

Michael Young, President of the New York Film Academy; Sun Lijun, Vice President of the Beijing Film Academy and Dean of the China Animation Research Institute; and Erick Oh, Oscar–nominated director in the Best Animated Short Film category, will join the stage as keynote speakers to explore the significance and role and meaning of visual imagination in the global era. Focusing on the transformations of visual culture driven by digital media, AI, and streaming platforms, the forum will examine how regionally rooted visual cultures can connect to the world and expand into sustainable development models.

The forum will also highlight how visual narratives—shaped by local histories, traditions, and ways of life—assert strong cultural identities, and how local specificity has become a vital resource for creativity and differentiation in the era of globalization. The forum is expected to serve as a platform that fosters active engagement and collaboration among artists, researchers, and students.

The Forum BIFF 2025, co-organized with Dongseo University, will take place on September 19 (Fri) at the Busan Film & Audiovisual Industry Center 11F Conference Hall.
