Busan Story Market: Asia’s Premier Hub for Original IP Business
The Busan Story Market (BSM) serves as a key marketplace for original IP transactions, connecting film and audiovisual industry professionals with a wide range of content providers (CPs) from around the world. Each year, it showcases a diverse slate of IPs, driving the distribution of secondary rights and expanding the global content business network. Official selections are actively presented through pitching sessions and business meetings, fostering rights deals and collaborative opportunities.

Korean IP: The Power of K-Content, Shining Through Originality and Vision
For this year's Korean IP section, the Busan Story Market has selected 19 original IPs, including 11 books, four webtoons, two web novels, and two stories, from a total of 184 submissions by 97 companies. While the total number of submissions saw a slight decline, the sustained strength of book-based IPs and the participation of nine first-time selected companies are noteworthy. Spanning genres such as romance, human drama, fantasy, period pieces, and animation, many of this year’s works bring fresh creative twists to familiar emotional themes. In addition to well-known motifs like the occult and time loops, several IPs explore artificial intelligence as a central narrative device, showcasing a bold expansion of imaginative possibilities. |
Taiwanese IP: Showcasing Originality Through Compelling Loglines
Since 2020, the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) has introduced a wide range of original IPs through its ongoing partnership with ACFM, and this year brings another strong lineup. A total of six Taiwanese IPs — three books, two web novels, and one comic — have been selected, standing out for their inventive genre experimentation, layered emotional narratives, and richly drawn characters. Blending refined storytelling with emotional nuance, this year’s Taiwanese selection is drawing intense interest for its cinematic potential on the global stage. |
Japanese IP: Demonstrating Strong Remake Viability
A total of six Japanese IPs, including three books, two comics, and one TV drama, have been selected through the Visual Industry Promotion Organization (VIPO). Notably, this marks the first time a TV drama IP has been included in the Japanese lineup, raising expectations for its potential in remakes and cross-media (OSMU) expansion. The selection once again highlights Japan’s distinctive storytelling prowess, renowned for its creative flexibility and broad adaptability across various formats.
The 2025 Busan Story Market, a key segment of the Asian Contents & Film Market, will be held at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center (BEXCO) Exhibition Hall 2 for four days from September 20 (Sat) to 23 (Tues). |
