    How do I submit my film to the Busan International Film Festival?

    A

    You need to register your film by completing the online submission form. Once you have verified your email address, you will receive an email where you could fill in your film information.

    When is the submission deadlines?

    A

    The deadline for short films is 18:00 (KST) 19 June, and for feature-length films, it is 18:00 (KST) 17 July, 2024.

    What is the fee for processing a film submission?

    A

    There is no fee for a film submission.

    May I submit more than one film?

    A

    Yes, you may submit more than one film but you need to complete the submission form for each film individually.

    Do you accept re-submission?

    A

    Films submitted for previous editions of the festival should not be resubmitted. In case of new versions due to re-shooting, re-editing, and etc., exceptional cases may apply by the decision of the selection committee.

    How do you distinguish short films from feature films?

    A

    Films with a total running time of less than 60 minutes are classified as shorts. Films with a total running time 60 minutes or longer are classified as features. Please note that for the Wide Angle - Korean Short Film Competition and Asian Short Film Competition sections, only films with a total running time of less than 30 minutes are considered.

    How do you define the production country(ies) of a film and how does it affect the section the film is selected for?

    A

    The production country(ies) is based on the primary source of the film's financing. In the case of an international co-production, you should list all the countries in order of the film's financial sources. If you are unable to make a decision based on financing, you may indicate the production country that you feel best suits your film. After your film is selected, the festival reserves the right to determine which section your film belongs to. Various factors are taken into consideration, including the film content, production location and the nationality of the director(s) and cast.

    What is the meaning of premiere status?

    A

    - World premiere - The film has never been shown anywhere publicly.
    - International premiere - The film has only been released theatrically or presented in its country of origin, but nowhere else.
    *This does not apply to Korean films. If a Korean film has already been presented in Korea, its premiere status is "No premiere".
    - Asian premiere - The film has already been shown or theatrically released outside of Asian, but never been presented in an Asian country.
    - Korean premiere - The film has never been shown publicly in Korea.
    - No premiere [Not applicable] - The film has been presented / theatrically released internationally including Korea.
    * In terms of online screening, if the film was screened online with geo-blocking, the regular premiere status rule applies.

    Can I choose the section when submitting my film?

    A

    No, you can’t choose the section for the submission. The selection committee reserves the right to decide the section in which the selected film will participate.

  • Q

    I have several films to be registered. Is there another way to do so? (like by sending email?)

    A

    No, you can only submit each film directly through our official website (www.biff.kr).
