You need to register your film by completing the online submission form. Once you have verified your email address, you will receive an email where you could fill in your film information.

The deadline for short films is 18:00 (KST) 19 June, and for feature-length films, it is 18:00 (KST) 17 July, 2024.

There is no fee for a film submission.

Yes, you may submit more than one film but you need to complete the submission form for each film individually.

Films submitted for previous editions of the festival should not be resubmitted. In case of new versions due to re-shooting, re-editing, and etc., exceptional cases may apply by the decision of the selection committee.

Films with a total running time of less than 60 minutes are classified as shorts. Films with a total running time 60 minutes or longer are classified as features. Please note that for the Wide Angle - Korean Short Film Competition and Asian Short Film Competition sections, only films with a total running time of less than 30 minutes are considered.

The production country(ies) is based on the primary source of the film's financing. In the case of an international co-production, you should list all the countries in order of the film's financial sources. If you are unable to make a decision based on financing, you may indicate the production country that you feel best suits your film. After your film is selected, the festival reserves the right to determine which section your film belongs to. Various factors are taken into consideration, including the film content, production location and the nationality of the director(s) and cast.

- World premiere - The film has never been shown anywhere publicly.
- International premiere - The film has only been released theatrically or presented in its country of origin, but nowhere else.
*This does not apply to Korean films. If a Korean film has already been presented in Korea, its premiere status is "No premiere".
- Asian premiere - The film has already been shown or theatrically released outside of Asian, but never been presented in an Asian country.
- Korean premiere - The film has never been shown publicly in Korea.
- No premiere [Not applicable] - The film has been presented / theatrically released internationally including Korea.
* In terms of online screening, if the film was screened online with geo-blocking, the regular premiere status rule applies.

No, you can’t choose the section for the submission. The selection committee reserves the right to decide the section in which the selected film will participate.

No, you can only submit each film directly through our official website (www.biff.kr).

The Festival accepts features, short films, documentaries and animation. The film must have been completed no earlier than October 2023, and should be completed no later than September 2024. Non-Asian short films are not open to submission.

It doesn’t refer to the period of shooting. It is the year when the film was completed.

Busan only accepts Asian short fiction films, which means that the film has to be of Asian element. Several factors will be considered such as the production country, director’s nationality or heritage, shooting location, language and such.

Not yet, you need to upload a screener (film file) through a link in the email you received from us. Submission will be considered complete only when the required film information is registered online and the screener is uploaded on the link by 18:00 (KST) on the deadline date.

Once you have submitted your application form where you filled out general information about the film, you will receive another email that includes instructions on uploading your film screener.

Even though you have compressed the file according to our specification guideline, a failure to upload sometimes occurs. In this case, please check the following tips.
1. Try downsizing the film file, if the file size is more than 5GB.
2. The file name must not include any special characters or blank spaces. Please do not, for example, use any file names like “biff@!%**().mov”.

No, you must submit the full version screener of the film for consideration.

No, we don’t accept screeners through email nor Vimeo or any other private links. We do accept the submission through our official website only. Please check the email received from us after submitting your application form.

You may submit your film as a rough cut, but the rough cut should be subtitled (in case the dialogue is non-English or non-Korean) and it should not be completely different from the final version of the film. Additionally, the film (including the post-production) should be completed no later than September 2024. Please provide an on-screen description of missing scenes or elements where applicable or send us an email with the tracking number of your submission.

No, please do not send an updated version of the film screener unless requested.

If the film includes non-English or non-Korean dialogues, burned-in English subtitles are required at the time of submission.

Yes, since the upload link is valid until the deadline, you could upload it anytime before the deadline. We recommend you to upload the screener file a few days before the deadline because of the high volume of traffic on the deadline date. It can take a few hours to complete the submission if you wait right before the deadline to upload your film.

We don’t accept any additional film materials other than mentioned in the submission form. We will contact you if needed.

Each submission has its own tracking number so please check emails received from us and every tracking number of your submissions. Choose one of them that you would like to have as a final and upload your screener through the link with a final tracking number. After you complete the upload process, please send the final submission tracking number you have completed to us at submission@biff.kr. Upon your confirmation, we will delete the incomplete submissions (submissions without screener uploaded) to avoid any confusion.

Your application form and the screener will be checked from our side once you have submitted the online submission form and the screener. Then we will send you a final confirmation email which means your submission is successfully complete.

The festival will notify the result to the applicants by the end of August and a final selection list will be announced on our official website.

The festival does not provide an individual explanation on the non-selection of a film.
