프로그램 노트

The film explores three special nights in detective Chang’s life, going back in time from the near future to present and past. One night in the near future, a middle-aged detective Chang makes an extreme decision when he finds out his wife is having an affair with his boss. Chang, currently a young detective, happens to witness that his pretty wife is having sex with another man. Adolescent Chang in the past is arrested for stealing and meets a middle-aged woman caught for stealing in the police station. Ho Wi Ding is a Malaysian-born Chinese director actively working in Taiwan. His films are closely related to the circumstances he was born and raised in. Cities of Last Things is a multi-country co-production, including Taiwan, China, France and the United States, and shows the character of his open film aiming at several places at the same time rather than one. While a fiction film with sophisticated characters and stories, it does not miss out the unexpected documentary aspect, which contains an anthropological diagnosis of the present era. (Sung Jihae)
