Ja-yoon (Kim Da-mi) lost all her memories in a mysterious accident during childhood, and now lives in a peaceful farming village. She grows up to be a cheerful high school student and tries to help out at home by winning the prize money in a TV competition. Meanwhile, a secret organization has been hunting her and comes for her after seeing her on TV. Once caught, Ja-yoon realizes that she has hidden superpowers. Stories about girls with superpowers they don’t know about pursued by a secret organization have been made into many science fiction films already. But rather than trying to escape the clichés of the genre, director Park Hoon-jung exploits them to create an effective collage. The delicate tension balanced throughout Ja-yoon’s normal life at the onset explodes in a rush of adrenaline towards the end of the film. The explosion more than makes up for the rather lacking twist in the narrative. Especially remarkable is Kim Da-mi’s Ja-yoon, a vibrant character who could have easily been too alien for the audience. (Song Kyong Won)
