Program Note
Basile Matin has a bizarre dream. He dreams that tonight could be his last night. If he falls asleep, he dies. At least, this is what his dream told him. He saw Faftao-Laoupo, the symbol of the penultimate sleep. But Basile feels too young to die. In order to triumph over mortality. he decides never to sleep again. Igor is another young man. He is broke and bored, so Basile′s story is a source of great fascination for him. Last but not least, there′s Johnny Got. an amateur journalist and detective, interested in stories which are not his business. He sets out to find Basile... A completely absurd story which breaks all the rules-if there are any at all-- and repeatedly oversteps the border between reality and fantasy.
Director
Director
Alain GUIRAUDIE
After an encouraging refusal from a producer who didn’t want to produce his first script Alain Guiraudie received a government subsidy and directed and produced the short film [Heroes Never Die] himself. Continuing to make shorts while working as a night watchman, Guiraudie then moved into television and became involved with production company Les Films de Paulo, which financed [That Old Dream That Moves], a 50 minute film that was presented at the Cannes 2001 Director’s Fortnight. [No Rest For The Brave] is Guiraudie’s first feature length film.
