Program Note
Sandy is a geologist who wants to go places. Fast. And she does, but not exactly where she intended. Together with her business partner Baird, she runs a software company which means she has to play nursemaid to Hiromitsu a Japanese salaryman whose company may purchase their IT products if Sandy treats him well. Completely ignorant of Japanese customs, Sandy finds her Japanese guest rude, incommunicative and sexist. Though he keeps his thoughts about Sandy secret, he tells his boss that his escort is loud, aggressive and unattractive. Further aggravating Sandy, Hiromitsu insists on being driven beyond his scheduled visit to an even more isolated area of the outback. The outcome of the extra-curricular field trip is disastrous as their four wheel drive vehicle becomes victim to the treacherous sand roads.Stranded, far from any chance of assistance, they begin to discover things about each other-and themselves-in a mutual journey that bring both happiness and tragedy.
