Program Note
16 Years of Alcohol is a moving and powerful look at three stages of a man′s life as he searches for hope and redemption. Frankie Mac′s starts out with a dominant father and an alcohol-drenched childhood. Beyond that are his teenage years when the young man thrives on music, clothes and gang violence. Love offers salvation but the tyranny of the past, blocks any real connection with others in general and women in particular. Culminating with Frankie′s adult life as an emotionally elusive actor, 16 Years of Alcohol shows that the shadow of the past is never far behind. Feeling too vulnerable and too afraid to commit, Frankie allows a potentially beautiful relationship to fall apart. At last he has the opportunity to understand the meaning of hope and feel the power of love... if only he can break the bonds of his past and transcend who he seems destined to be.
