Program Note
When Anna and her family arrive at their country home, they find it occupied by strangers. This confrontation, which leaves her husband dead, is just the beginning of a painful learning process. A violent, unexplained event has happened somewhere in the world. Nothing is as it was. Anna, her son and daughter flee into the night. No one seems willing to give them help. They ultimately wind up at a train depot where a motley assortment of people have taken refuge, a group which represents a microcosm of man kind′s most noble and reprehensible characteristics. When raw panic and despair become the order of the day, man becomes more like a wolf than like a man. This is the story of an apocalypse. But it is also the story of a sacrifice, the story of a saint...
