Program Note
Gerry is still at school and his best mate Sewell is unemployed. Owning two season tickets to their beloved football club is their biggest dream of all. The tickets cost 1000 pounds. But they′re nothing if not resourceful. While they think up increasingly outlandish money-making schemes - from selling household junk to shoplifting and the odd bit of housebreaking - real life begins to interfere. Gerry′s violent and alcoholic father catches up with the family and forces them to move house. Sewell falls for a local girl but has to deal with her ′built like a brickhouse′ boyfriend. Gerry makes a pact with the family′s social worker to go back to school in exchange for two tickets to a game - but even that turns out not to be quite as he′d expected. The pair′s final scam goes hilariously awry and they end up in jail - only to discover in a sweet twist of irony that their punishment gets them exactly where they want to be.
