Program Note
A boy named Nezhad, at 14 years old, is forced to care for his younger brother and two sisters after the death of their parents. He drops out of school and begins smuggling goods on the Iran/Iraq border with his mule. His mule breaks a leg and he must carry the goods himself.

Bahman GHOBADI
Bahman Ghobadi was born in Baneh, a city near the Iran-Iraq border. He worked as an industrial photographer. Although he earned a B.A. in Film Directing from the Iranian Broadcasting College, he never graduated. His experience with film helped him expand his voice and his vision of the world he inhabited.
