Program Note
Late August, Early September relates events from late August one year until early September the next. It runs from the breakdown in Gabriel and Jenny′s relationship, despite the affection that continues to bind them, to the affirmation of a new love, that of Gabriel and Anne despite their fears and uncertainties. It′s also a story of the demise of one man, Adrien Willer, Gabriel′s closest friend, who is struck down by an old illness and must come to terms with his own early death. We see its impact on the living, the structures that form around a living being. The way approaching death transforms them all. Death is present but seen by others. Over the months, Gabriel gradually has to move away from Adrien′s influence and renounce the old and deep bond that tied him to Jenny and accept his new love for Anne. To acknowledge that life awaits him.
