Program Note
Kathi’s dream is to live in Berlin as an actress. However, it’s not easy for her to adapt to reality. Kathi’s mother, a counselor, gives her many pieces of advice, but what she really wants is to choose and live her own life. Confrontation between Kathi and her mother intensifies because of her 4-year-old son, and to make matters worse, Kathi’s father Wolfgang suddenly moves in with Kathi. This makes Kathi inevitably caught up with her parents’ problems as well. <Dust on Our Hearts> is a drama that depicts the conflicts and its chain effect, which could happen in any ordinary family. While illustrating how an individual grows and becomes socially independent, it also portrays difficult situations where family relationship can easily be hurt in an interesting way. Above all, the film is a story of the director herself, showing the strong desire to become independent. In other words, Kathi’s life is in fact a self-portrait of the director. (LEE Sang-yong)
