Program Note
Jean-Charles HUE is a revelation of French cinema in recent years. Having directed documentaries since the 2000s, he is particularly interested in gypsy communities in France and Spain. After his feature film Eat Your Bones (2014), Jean-Charles HUE immerses himself in the world of the Mexican underworld to tell the story of a descent into hell and redemption. Nick, a veteran of the traumatized Iraq war, survives with difficulty in the Mexican city of Tijuana. He crosses the road of Ana a woman in search of her brother, disappeared while he was against the gang of drug traffickers of the district. With his brilliant solar photography, reminiscent of Christopher DOYLE′s, and the natural settings of the slums of Mexico, Tijuana Bibles is a violent and fascinating thriller.
