17-year old Sangaile dreams of becoming a light aircraft pilot but she cannot overcome her fear of heights. Living a quiet life with her family, she befriends a neighbor, the cheerful Auste. Since then, Sangail has opened her mind and starts being honest with herself. As her friendship with Auste grows into love, Sangaile tries to admit her hopes and face her fears. Lithuanian director Alanté Kavaïté’s second feature, The Summer of Sangaile explores a teenage girl’s romance and growing pains against the backdrop of the beautiful Lithuanian countryside. The poetic images of the rural village aren’t just background; they catch the audience’s eye when it reveals its multiple faces representing the complicated mind of Sangaile.
