Ferdinand is an ex-Spanish teacher living with a wealthy Italian wife. When a beautiful babysitter, Marianne, comes into Ferdinand`s life a mysterious air comes along with her ? and between them. [Pierrot le Fou], taking its title from the name of a notorious serial killer 35 years ago, is Jean-Luc Godard`s cinematic adaptation of Lionel White`s noire novel [Obsession]. The film focuses on the romantic yet hopeless runaway couple played by Anna Karina and Jean-Paul Belmondo, rather than crime and interrogation. This abstruse masterpiece clearly shows Godard`s auteur signature: defamiliarization of conventional narrative, formal experiments, intertextuality of references like Elie Faure, Velazquez, Picasso and Samuel Fuller, and thoughts on romantic partnership.
