New Currents Award

The only featured competition at PIFF is awarded in the ‘New Currents’ section. New Currents Award serves to promote emerging film talent in Asia by selecting the best new film by an Asian director. Selected by a jury of eminent film professionals, the award guarantees domestic film distribution in Korea or $10,000 to the director in case Korean distribution is not possible.

Sonje Award

The Sonje Award is a cash award of ₩10,000,000 to the best Korean short film or video to encourage young filmmakers in independent filmmaking. .

Woonpa Award

The Woonpa Award is a cash prize of ₩10,000,000 to the best Korean documentary.

FIPRESCI Award

FIPRESCI Award (Prize of the International Film Critics) is awarded annually at PIFF to a new Asian film from ‘New Currents’ section for its experimental and progressive spirit by the Association of Internal Film Press.

NETPAC Award

The NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) Award is presented to the best Korean feature film by the NETPAC Jury. NETPAC was founded as an international body in 1990 with a mission to promote and to distribute Asian films, and to introduce the outstanding achievements of Asian cinema overseas

PSB Award (Audience Award)

The PSB Cinema Award is an audience award of ₩10,000,000 presented to an Asian film by the Pusan Broadcasting Cultural Foundation.

Korean Cinema Award

In recognition of the importance of finding an international audience for Korean cinema, the Korean Cinema Award is awarded by PIFF’s Organizing Committee to foreign figures who have significantly contributed to introducing Korean films to the international community of cinema. This year’s recipients are Gilles Jacob, Festival Director of Cannes International Film Festival, and Moritz de Hadeln, Festival Director of Berlin International Film Festival.
