23rd Busan International Film Festival has Unveils the Actor& Actress of the Year Award Jury: KO Hyun Joung, YU Jun-sang



The 23rd Busan International Film Festival unveils Ko Hyun Joung and Yu Jun-sang as jury members for the Actor & Actress of the Year Award.

 

The Actor & Actress of the Year Award is the awarded to promising actors who will lead in the future development of Korean films. The award is given to an actor and an actress with the best acting performances in independent Korean films among the New Currents and Korean Cinema Today – Vision. Sitting on the jury for the Actor & Actress of the Year Award are Ko Hyun Joung, who has always attracted the attention of audiences with charismatic performances and perfect portrayals of various characters, and Yu Jun-sang, who has played numerous key roles in films, dramas, and musicals

 

The prior winners of the Actor & Actress of the Year Award, launched in 2014, are Choi Woo-shik in Set Me Free (2014), Cho Soohyang in Wild Flowers (2014), Lee Ju-Won in Alone (2015), Jang Sun in Communication& Lies (2015), Lee Minji and Gu Gyohwan in Jane (2016). Past winners of the Actor & Actress of the Year Award at the 22nd Busan International Film Festivals were Jeon Yeobeen, who held the attention of audiences in After My Death (2017), and Park Jonghwan in Hit the Night (2017).

 

The 23rd Actor & Actress of the Year Award will be presented at the Closing Ceremony on October 13. The jury of the Actor & Actress of the Year Award will select and award winners with a cash prize of 5,000,000 KRW (approx. 4,500 USD) each.

 

 ∎ KO Hyun Joung

 

Ko Ko Hyun Joung made her acting debut with South Korean television series Love on a Jujube Tree in 1990. She became one of the most acclaimed actresses in the 1990s with many critically acclaimed TV shows including Eyes of Dawn (1991), Farewell (1994), My Mother’s Sea (1993), Women’s Room (1992), and A Love Without Fear (1992). She staged a comeback in the television series Spring Day in 2005 after a 10 year hiatus from the TV show Sandglass that ended in 1995. After playing an impressive character named Mi-shil in the historical television series The Great Queen Seondeok (2009), she appealed to many of Korean viewers and had strong ratings of over 40 percent. She expanded her acting range with her thirst for special performances and starred in Hong Sangsoo’s Woman on the Beach (2006). She now fulfills various roles in many of both in films and TV shows such as Like You Know It All (2009), The Day He Arrives (2011), Dear My Friends (2016), and A Tiger in Winter (2017).

 

∎ YU Jun-sang

 

Yu Jun-sang graduated from Daewon Foreign Language High School, Dongguk University in theater and film, and earned his Master’s Degree in Film and Musical from the Graduate school of Myongji University. He was inspired by Lee Man-hui, Yu Jun-sang’s high school teacher and a screenwriter, to become an actor. He was employed as the 5th of Seoul Broadcasting System Talent Recruitment in 1995. He has performed a number of roles in musicals including Grease (1998), Jack the Ripper (2009), The Three Musketeers (2009), Rebecca (2013), Frankenstein (2015), Ben-Hur (2017), and Barnum: The Greatest Showman (2018). He has received numerous awards such as the Best Male Actor Award at the Korea Musical Awards 2002 and the Star of the Year Award at the Daegu International Musical Festival Awards 2018. He has also performed on TV shows including The Land (2004), Marry Me! (2004), Inspector Park Moon Soo (2002), Fox and Cotton Candy (2001), Life Is Beautiful (2010), and Full of Sun (2000). He became one of the most beloved actors for his role in a TV show, My Husband Got a Family (2012). He has also performed in movies with starring in In Another Country (2012) and A Matter of Interpretation (2014). His performances have established him as one of the most acclaimed actors in Korea, and as the recipient of numerous drama and film awards.

 

 

The 23rd Busan International Film Festival will be held from October 4, 2018 to October 13, 2018.

Asian Film Market will be held from October 6, 2018 to October 9, 2018.

Asian Project Market will be held from October 7, 2018 to October 9, 2018.
